Complex Endorsements

Complex Aircraft Endorsement

Master the Mechanics. Fly with Precision.

A Complex Endorsement is required by the FAA (per FAR 61.31(e)) for any pilot wishing to act as Pilot in Command (PIC) of an aircraft with retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable-pitch propeller—known collectively as "complex" features.

At Southern Flight Aviation, we offer streamlined, hands-on training that builds the technical skills and situational awareness needed to safely and confidently operate complex aircraft.

Course Overview

  • Ground Instruction:

    • Systems training: landing gear, flaps, constant-speed props

    • Emergency systems (e.g., gear failure procedures)

    • Weight, balance, and performance planning

    • System limitations and aircraft checklists

  • Flight Training:

    • Normal and abnormal gear operations

    • Power settings and RPM/MP combinations

    • Takeoff, landing, and go-around procedures

    • Configuration management and energy control

There is no minimum flight hour requirement—the endorsement is issued when the instructor confirms you’ve demonstrated safe and competent use of all complex systems.
